RIFTstream Aug 18 Recap – Art Stream

On Friday, August 18, 2017, Brasse was joined by Ferd and Tim from the art team to talk about how characters get created in RIFT.


On Friday’s livestream, Linda “Brasse” Carlson, Director of Community Relations was joined by Ferdinand “Ferd” Terado (Senior Animator) and Tim “Tim” Scott (Character Artist). They showed off how they create character mobs inside RIFT from sculpting them to applying colors and effects, and finally animating them to look realistic.

RIFTstream Bringing Characters to Life

Shiny Shenanigans: August 17 – 22

Summerfest is over but the fun in Telara is just warming up! Get your special Artifact eyes out and prepare to hunt for shinies!



Shiny Shenanigans starts on August 17th! Artifact piñatas will appear around Telara in one of 15 possible locations per zone, with up to five that can be active at any given time. That is of course, except for Tyrant Throne, which has only three at a time.

Artifact Eyes – the penultimate fashion accessory!

Hurry and earn those artifact sets to unlock “Artifact Eyes”, special cosmetic abilities that really make your eyes glow! For example, you can earn Poison Artifact Eyes for completing the poison set. The Meta set containing all the eyes then grants the Rainbow Artifact Eyes ability, which changes color every five seconds.

Celestial Storm Contest

Summerfest is in full swing, as is all the adventure of 4.2 Celestial Storm. With new quests, a new overland zone, and a Telaran-ton of fun, what more could you ask for? How about some free stuff?



Community member Seshatar has just what you need! He put together a fun community contest where you can submit your screenshots on Twitter to win some great prizes. There are three categories to choose from:
Contest Categories

1) Greetings from Vostigar!
Create a virtual postcard based on one or multiple RIFT screenshots that shows how your character is exploring the secrets of Vostigar Peaks. The focus should be on the beauty of the new zone.

2) Summer Fashion
Put on your favorite summer wardrobe, put it in scene and take 1-4 screenshots of it! Your whole character should be clearly visible in at least one of the screenshots, in the additional screenshots you can pose or mount up if you like!

3) My Celestial Moment
Record a video clip of 30-60 seconds length that shows your special little moment in Vostigar Peaks. You can easily do that with the in game recorder or use external software. Editing and (royalty free) music are allowed! Upload it on YouTube or Twitch.

RIFTstream Yaviey’s Let’s Play #1

This week the new RIFT Community Manager Yaviey jumps into RIFT as a total noob. Join us live in-game on the NA servers.



Brasse is out this week and Yaviey is taking over! She is your new Community Manager for RIFT, Jennifer “Yaviey” Bridges. Chris “Keyens” Meyers (Systems Designer) will be on stream as well, probably just to troll her.

This is Yaviey’s very first “Let’s Play.” She will try her hand at a Guardian High Elf Mage, explore the starting zone, and try to get as many levels as possible while questing and killing bad guys. What souls should she pick? What should her rotation be? Got some other tips for new players? Let us know live on the stream or on the forums. We’ll feature the best advice in a blog post next week.

What is Summerfest?

You may be wondering what Summerfest is, and its origins. In modern times, Summerfest is the holiday that marks the longest days of summer. Ascended continue to celebrate ancient traditions and have fun, even in the sweltering heat. This of course, helps ease the stress of the near-constant threats against Telara.

Origin of Summerfest

While some of the history is lost to time, many scholars believe that Summerfest dates back to ancient elven rituals involving burning sacrifices inside wicker figures. Of course, most elves would prefer to forget these barbaric references to their past. In fact, such practices are now forbidden by both High Elves and Kelari alike, although sometimes alluded to by disgruntled Dwarves. What remains in modern Telara is a celebration of flames for all Ascended to enjoy.
