5 PC Tips For New Gamers

Have you just started playing games on PC? Then, there are a number of things to think about for the desired gaming experience. Even if you have been playing games on PC for a while now, there are a few elements you might be missing. No matter what, you need to know how to manage your PC and maintain a high-performing gaming library. Every new player makes mistakes in certain departments, which results in low-quality gaming experience or computer issues that trouble again and again. This article has five major PC tips that every newbie gamer should follow from the very beginning.

· Organize your library of games

Various online platforms provide games to download. However, you should not start rushing to load every game at once on your computer. It will do nothing but reduce the storage space faster. Initially, you should think about organizing the installations before downloading games. Know the storage space you have, and then prepare a library of games that stays in your control. For that, you have to decide different installation pathways on your computer.

· Configure hardware settings

Your PC needs some setting tweaks, depending on the graphics card you have. Gpunerd.Com is the right place to find out about graphics cards. Then, you can configure the hardware of your PC with the right software. Adding features of recording ongoing games and stream settings become possible with this configuration.

· Update your drivers

Any reduction in gaming quality can irritate you when playing. Hence, it would be wise to take care of the potential issues in advance. Updating your PC is one of those responsibilities that decide the gaming performance. This way, you get to prolong the performance and overall life of the hardware.

Graphics driver requires special attention in terms of updates. You have to get the new upgrades to ensure a high FPS when playing. There are programs out there offered by software and tools to automatically update graphics drivers. You should definitely invest in those programs.

· Change your monitor

If your monitor is slow, there is no point having the best graphics card. You will never get the true satisfaction of PC games. Full motion experience of games is possible with an advanced monitor that comes with more than 120 Hz of refresh rate. Upgrade your PC with a monitor that offers quick response time and provides high-quality color accuracy.

· Get yourself advanced controllers

An old keyboard, headset and mouse are not the modern-age gaming style. They don’t give you the desired experience too. Hence, it is better to upgrade to better controllers to make every click feel real. Connect a compatible controller to your PC and you will feel a sudden increase in your performance skills. A controller allows you to have more in-depth experience when playing games on PC.

You have started playing games on PC. Now is the time to start feeling like a pro PC gamer. Follow the mentioned tips to empower your gaming skills and keep your PC in top-notch condition.

Why gaming is good for kids

As parents, you often hear terror-tales about how gaming and spending time online can be damaging to your child’s physical and mental health. This kind of fearmongering can lead to parents limiting screen time, or banning gaming altogether, but by excessively limiting the amount of technology children are exposed to, are you doing more harm than good? Read on to discover how gaming and modern technology can be beneficial for children.

Gaming promotes teamwork

Modern technology really is a marvel, allowing children to play multiplayer games with other children all around the world. Kids can hop on their consoles, or log in to their game on their PC and join their friends on missions, without them having to be in the same room. This social interaction is more than just fun, and children are learning to play as a member of a team, speaking to one another using headsets, issuing commands and suggestions as they play. It is during these team games that children learn that cooperation is key to success and that squabbles and lack of cooperation can lead to a game ending abruptly.

Learning to multitask
Modern gaming involves being able to do multiple things at once, from moving characters from one destination to the next, and watching out for the approach of enemies, to picking up and using weapons, and searching for clues and objects. All this may be done at the same time as speaking with a fellow player via a headset, which adds to the complexity of the game.

Building confidence

In the real world, your child may be shy and you may see that when they retreat to their room to play computer games they are stepping away from the real world. However, video games can boost a child’s confidence by allowing them to express themselves via different characters, often those with a high status in the gaming world. It also gives them a common interest with other gaming enthusiasts so that when they interact with their classmates with the same interest in gaming, they have something to add to the conversation. Many children have a natural propensity for voicing opinions that adults may shy away from, as is shown on sites like Fabweb.Org, but other children that may lack the confidence to do so initially, could discover and unleash that confidence through the help of gaming.

Leadership skills

Gaming allows children to play roles they wouldn’t normally in real life, and it is in this environment that they can safely make mistakes while learning to lead characters and guide scenarios without any real -life repercussions. As they become more confident in their virtual roles, they may then become more confident making decisions in their everyday lives.

As with any hobby, gaming should be enjoyed in moderation, and games should always be age-appropriate, so do always check the games that your child is playing. With the right guidance, children can benefit immensely from online gaming and parents should not be unduly worried by their child’s interest in the gaming world.

Summer 2018 RIFT Updates – Official Dev Letter

Hail, Ascended!

A busy six weeks have passed since our spring update letter, and while it’s not quite officially summer, the Rift team is full steam ahead preparing for long days and too-hot weekends where you can escape the heat outside by playing Rift! (If you’re in the southern hemisphere, clearly you should also bundle up in a blanket with some Rift in the chilly evenings, just saying.)

Grab your sunglasses and a cold drink and let’s get to it – and don’t forget your towel!

Latest Balance Updates

The recent work on soul balance picked up speed with a significant set of ability updates in 4.4 Hotfix #13, published live on May 16th. This first pass brought a lot of focus on Warrior souls, with the goal of bringing them up to a more competitive state and more fun to play. If you were considering a new alt, now would be a good time to try a Warrior! Additional fixes went in for Clerics, Rogues, and Mages, as well as overall buff stacking groups between callings.

These balance changes are definitely not considered the end of ongoing soul work, but so far appear to bring us to a more even baseline for soul performance from which more targeted changes can be made. High on that list are Legendary Abilities, additional Warrior improvements, and a look at Clerics for both healing and DPS.

We’d like to offer great appreciation to those players who joined us on PTS Omega to review, parse, and give feedback on the combined changes prior to them going live! You can expect some more future patches to roll out in a similar manner, where a set of changes gets compiled over time, sent to PTS, then reviewed before integrating into the Live and Prime update schedule.

Speaking of PTS and content testing, we’re about to have the ability to run both PTS Alpha and PTS Omega at the same time with the same patch, with the shards running different (Live and Prime) rulesets. When we get ready to enable them, we’ll be taking PTS offline for a couple of days for behind-the-scenes work. It’ll be worth it to be able to get both types of testing at the same time!

Latest Content Updates

The Seeker scavenger hunt event started on May 16th, and to be completely honest, there’s some pleasant surprise at the collaboration we’ve seen! You’ve been teaming up to share coordinates and discussing the hunt on the forums – Rift players are the best. 🙂 Good luck to those still working on the collection, and to those awaiting the challenge results!

Over on Prime, Greenscale made his grand appearance and many of the Ascended rose to the challenge – some of them even met with victory. If you’re not quite raid-ready yet, don’t fret! Additional changes went in to adjust overpowered Sliver boss abilities, and to smooth out the Prime experience curve. The update also reduced the platinum costs of expanded Role slots for those of you who prefer to have a spec ready for every situation.

The Near Horizon

While the recent hotfixes have a strong balance focus, on the mid-term horizon we have folks already working on some really great summer events and laying the groundwork for some of our longer term content goals for Live as the Prophecy of Ahnket storyline continues. More frequent bonus events, like this last weekend’s bonus experience on both Live and Prime, are also in the cards. It’s hard to talk details on some of these until the patches get closer to complete, but there are definitely some beans to spill. Not too many, though – don’t want to spoil the picnic!

Summerfest approaches with the promise of relaxation in Telara – who says an Ascended can’t take a vacation from saving the world? New art and dimension items are rolling in, and this writer might be biased, but our artists are killing it! There’s also some cleanup work being done to improve the event experience this year.

Summerfest isn’t the only world event on the horizon. We’ve mentioned previously that the team is working on the prelude event for River of Souls on Prime. While these events may not be in the timeline for Live, they’re going to be fun and challenging content that we’ll be looking to release on all worlds! In that process we’ve uncovered other events from Rift’s past that were not tied to specific holidays or raids, and the team is working on bringing these back for an encore on both the Live servers and Prime.

Live

We have more than balance updates and events planned for Live servers this summer. The team is committed to improving the overall experience on Live servers, and some of the short- and mid-term focuses are:
  • Bring more exciting rewards to the Daily Reward Calendar on Live, more in line with the Prime rewards.
  • Add rare mount drops to Expert Dungeons and Raids on Live. These extra rewards for play have been great on Prime, and this one is an idea that’s definitely worth taking to all servers.
  • Revamp and reduce the credit store on Live. We’re looking keenly at player feedback, especially some recent well-presented player discussions, to improve this area. While we view the store as a place for cosmetics, convenience, and some amount of ability for newer players to catch up with their friends, we don’t want it to be perceived as gameplay replacement, so we’ll be making upcoming changes with that in mind.
  • Some may have noticed the recent trend on the Rift store to offer the latest mounts without releasing them inside of a lockbox, and you should expect more of that.
  • As an advanced Soul Balance topic, revisiting the Eternal Weapons and their impact on builds.
  • Planar Fragments, addressing their level of RNG and costs to upgrade.
  • Warfront queue level banding is going to be getting a look in an upcoming test. The more level bands and warfronts there are, the longer queueing takes. Our goal here is to speed up the queues while keeping gameplay fun.

We’ve got a jam-packed summer ahead of us, Ascended. We hope to see you well and victorious in Telara over the next few months!

The Seeker – SOLVED!

DeadSimon did not think it could be done, but the Ascended have proven him wrong! The Seekerhas been SOLVED on both Live and Prime. Want help finishing yours? Read on!

We were thrilled to see so many players banding together to share information on The Seeker. Locations started to pour into the forums and Discord from all corners, and the first completion happened on May 20th, just four days after The Seeker event went live!

This is an ongoing achievement available on both Live and Prime from now until the Plane of Fire freezes over. That means you have plenty of time to tackle it, and if you are stuck or want to get on the fast track, our friends at The Ghar Station have assembled a full guide for you!

Clowd recognizes the many contributors to the task, “Special Thanks to Kitasia (who started this list, it’s part her insanity) & the members of the Rift Dimensions Addicts Discord, especially Artemesea, Furyo, Tomba, Hersh, and anyone else I hopefully haven’t forgotten!”

Click here for the Ghar Station Contraptions Guide!

Winners of the Live and Prime Seeker challenges will be announced later this week.
SIDE NOTE: We are counting ONE entry per account for the Silver Tier challenge raffle on Live. One your account is on the list, further alt completions do not add to the count.
You’ll still get the achievements on alts and of course rack up a tidy bit of coin while doing so, but ONE entry per account. Don’t grind it!

Prime: Vigil – Greenscale Blight Is Here!

Greenscale has finally landed on Prime: Vigil! His roar echoes through the lands – he is not just hungry – he’s ravenous!

Of the Blood Storm, no dragon was more familiar to mortal races than Greenscale the Primeval, though this familiarity was a source of terror and sorrow. Greenscale would thunder across Telara, turning every forest into an aggressive, invasive force, seeding the world in vines and vegetation that could devour cities. Even Maelforge, for whom destruction was an ecstatic joy, did not cause widespread devastation on par with Greenscale’s crusade against all things civilized and soft. When Thorvin Sternhammer and his allies finally defeated and imprisoned Greenscale, countless wretches had perished between his teeth, beneath his claws, choked upon his poison breath.
The temple that imprisons him is now named Greenscale’s Blight, its original name long since lost to the ages. It is beginning to crumble under the might of the overgrowth that assails it from all sides.

There is a lot more to this epic tale. Click here to read on!

The first Dragon to challenge Prime: Vigil, Greenscale offers a great many achievements as well as the sort of loot only a greedy ancient would hoard. Remember that this dragon has allies – House Aelfwar has stormed the structure in an attempt to free Greenscale and are not at all happy to see a party of Ascended arriving to quash their plans.

You will face the luminaries of House Aelfwar before you have a chance to encounter the great dragon:
  • Duke Letareus, a brilliant warrior of unshakeable focus.
  • Infiltrator Johlen, loyal spymaster of Hylas, a saboteur of great infamy.
  • Oracle Aleria, a masked figure who channels her fury to all who challenge her.
  • Prince Hylas himself, aloof and disdainful – he will only deign to engage if you master his vassals. Hylas is the mightiest swordsman alive, bolstered by the primal might of Greenscale himself.

At last, you may encounter the ruinous power of the Primeval – and you may not live to tell the tale.
Is YOUR Guild ready for the assault? Are YOU?

Greenscale’s Blight is a Tier 1 20-person raid.

Join the saga through Looking For Raid (LFR) or enter with a raid group through the portal in Stillmoor!

SOUL UPDATES – LIVE AND PRIME:

Updated several tooltips to be much more full of truthiness – please continue to report any that are off-kilter and we’ll take a flyswatter to them too.
Updated buff stacking for numerous abilities across all callings for both active and passive buffs. Many of these were giving inappropriate bonuses due to being part of an incorrect group. I guess we can say “You’re welcome!” and “Sorry for your loss!” depending on where your character build falls in this correction.

WARRIOR: General Notes
Fixed an issue where warriors would have negative energy regeneration with their eternal weapon equipped and the Warchanter buff Deep Breaths active.
Fixed an issue where the warrior’s energy bar would bounce between 0 and 20 several times when the energy regen buff from their eternal weapon was applied.

WARRIOR – Champion
Grim Satisfaction – Removed the internal cooldown on the proc.
Mired – Increased damage bonus to 4/8/12% from 3/6/9%.

WARRIOR – Liberator
Liberator abilities Mass Casualty Response, Prolonged Recovery and Liberation Treatment no longer benefit from Paragon’s Turn the Blade GCD reduction if points are spent in Search and Rescue.

WARRIOR – Paragon:
Modified how Flowing Strikes and Improved Flowing Strikes work. The player will now only get a single buff, either Flowing Strikes or Improved Flowing Strikes. Improved Flowing Strikes now provides both the crit bonus from Flowing Strikes and its previous damage boost.
Updated the tooltip for Paragon Flowing Strikes talent to improve clarity.
Force of Will – Now also increases crit damage of Follow Up Attacks by an additional 3/6/9%.
Turn the Blade – Reduced the damage and healing penalty to 20%.
Analyze Weakness – Now reduces the damage and healing penalty from Turn the Blade to 15/10% for Paragon abilities.
Weapon Master – Now also reduces the cooldown of Flurry by 7.5/15s.

WARRIOR – Reaver:
Explosive Infestation now affects up to 5 enemies (previously affected 2)
Septic Wounds now also causes Dire Blow and Desecrating Blow to have a 20% chance, per Attack Point consumed, to refresh all of your active Reaver damage over time effects on the enemy.
Removed talent Deadly Reach.
New Talent: Pandemic Synergy – Your abilities, except for Reaver damage over time abilities, deal 2/4/6% increased damage to an enemy for each Reaver damage over time effect you have on that enemy. Tier 2 talent. 3 points.
Updated how Decaying Defenses is implemented. It now applies a debuff which appears separately from the Flesh Rot DoT effect. Only 1 stack of this debuff can be on a target at a time, regardless of caster.
Updated the tooltip for Plague Bringer to increase clarity.
Updated Septic Wounds chance to refresh Reaver DoTs to 35% per Attack Point consumed.

WARRIOR – Riftblade
Enhanced Burst has been changed to “Increases the Critical Hit Chance of Burst abilities by 7/15%. Hitting with a Burst ability increases the damage of non Physical attacks by 10/20% for 6 seconds.”
Increased the damage of Scald to be 4.5/9%, 9/18%, 13.5/27% of Attack Power based on Attack Points used.
Scald can now be triggered on enemies affected by Flame Burst or Flamespear.
Elemental Flux – Increased the Blade buff proc chance bonus to 5/10/15/20/25%.
Burst Synergy – Reduced cooldown from 1 min to 45s.
Improved Frost Strike – Now also increases damage from Finishers by 5/10%.
Elemental Caress – Now increases damage by 3/6%, up from 2/4%.
Intensify – Modified to Increases Critical Hit Chance by 2/4/6% and Critical Hit Damage by 5/10/15%.
Enhanced Burst – Now also adds a 25% chance for hitting with a Burst ability to award 1/2 combo points.

WARRIOR – Warlord
Reduced the duration of the DoT from Arterial Strike to 6s. The total damage dealt by the DoT remains the same.
Updated the Wave of Steel ability description to show how much damage bonus is gained if the ability is used after a Warlord Finisher.
Three Moves Ahead now increases Wave of Steel and Piercing Thrust damage by 10/20/30%. Up from 5/15/25%.
Combat Training now increases damage by 5/10%. Up from 2/5%.
The damage bonus from Down and Dirty is now 3/6%. Up from 2/4%.
The Advance Planning buff from King of the Hill now also affects Decisive Strike.

ROGUE – Riftstalker:
Updated the tooltip of the normal version of Planar Rejuvenation to correctly indicate the duration of the healing effect.

ROGUE – Saboteur:
Fixed an issue where Bombs Away! would stop causing Detonate to grant a combo point after respawning from death.

CLERIC – Justicar:
Fixed an issue where the Justicar’s Even Justice ability would proc its legendary effects with its normal version.
Updated how Salvation and Legendary Salvation are setup. The new setup avoids potential healing reductions when Salvation healing interacts with buffs that increase healing. Players should generally notice no change to the ability.

CLERIC – Runeshaper:
Bonus Rune of Smiting damage from Legendary Seal of Vulnerability can now only be triggered by the Seal’s original caster.
Fixed an issue where Rune of Travail, with the Powered Inscription talent, could occasionally refresh a normal Seal of Vulnerability with the legendary version.
Fixed another issue where Rune of Travail, with the Powered Inscription talent, would refresh Seal of Pain with Seal of Vulnerability instead.
Fixed a minor issue where an extra debuff effect would appear on the target momentarily when Seal of Enhancement was cast.

CLERIC – Druid
Fixed an issue preventing Wild Strike from adding stacks of Natural Force.

MAGE – Chloromancer:
Fixed an issue where the non-Chloromancer damage penalty on Lifegiving and Lifebound Veilscould be removed.

MAGE – Frostkeeper:
Inner Might now has a stack size of 1. This should address the worst of an exploit where players were building up large stacks of this buff.

MAGE: Mystic Archer:
Elemental Bonds can now only have a single buff active at a time.

MAGE – Pyromancer:
Updated the talent description for Pyromancer’s Vengeance to accurately reflect how the talent functions. It now indicates it increases the proc chance of Pyromancer’s Blessing by 2/4% per stack instead of 1 / 2% per stack. This is only a change to the tooltip and does not affect talent or ability functionality.

Additional Soul changes for PRIME only:
  • Rogue – Reverted the damage nerf to Fragmentation Sticky Bomb. BOOM!
  • Cleric – Reverted the damage nerf to Aggressive Avarice and Rune of Smiting. POW!
  • Mage – Reverted the damage nerf to Elemental Barrage. ZAP!

Additional Patch Note:

GILDED PROPHECY:

Unglued Uruluuk’s Staff out of the miserly hands of its keeper – it will now drop as it should.

Pagoda Dimension Challenge!

Faeblight United has mounted a fantastic challenge – Build a pagoda in a RIFT Dimension! Pictured is the Moonlight Pagoda by Qalexia@Faeblight – now it’s time to bring yours to life!

This unique challenge is brought to you by Faeblight United! This roleplaying guild is dedicated to keeping Telara creative and fun. They maintain a terrific site for stories, events, ideas and everything you need to create a truly moving tale for your character in RIFT!

Faeblight United member Kuula has posted the following on our forums. You can enter directly on this thread:
Pagoda Dimension Challenge

THE CHALLENGE:Construct a Pagoda in a dimension. Here is your chance to show how imaginative, technical and/or crazy you are!

DEFINITION:
A temple or sacred building, usually a tower and typically having upward-curving roofs over the individual stories. Pagodas come in many different sizes, as some may be small and others may be large. Pagodas traditionally have an odd number of levels, a notable exception being the eighteenth-century pagoda designed by Sir William Chambers at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London. The pagodas in Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia are very different from Chinese and Japanese pagodas. Pagodas in those countries are derived from Dravidian architecture.

This contest is to encourage the design of a structure that would be classified as a Pagoda, but is not limited to any particular style.

DATES:
This contest begins Sunday, April 8th, 2018 and ends at 1200 (Noon) PDT on Sunday, July 8th, 2018, with the winners announced by Saturday, July 14th, 2018.
Entries posted after the closing time and date will not be accepted.

PRIZES (ONE PER CATEGORY!):
  • 1st Place Prize: 3 REX
  • 2nd Place Prize: 2 REX
  • 3rd Place Prize: 1 REX
Each Judge Will Pick A Choice: 1 REX for each judges choice
(Trion Worlds will also award a secret prize to be drawn from all accepted entries! ~Brasse)

RULES:
This contest is open to all shards – EU and NA.
You can build in ANY dimension.

— READ THIS CAREFULLY —

THE DIMENSION MUST HAVE A CLEAR PAGODA STRUCTURE.
This contest is for new or existing builds.
Dimensions must be closed to the public until Sunday, July 8th, 2018.
Entries must be open for judging on Monday, July 9th, 2018, and remain open through the announcement of the winner. Any dimension not open by the closing date for entries will be disqualified from judging.
Everything is permitted for building. Premade pieces, etc.

** NOTE: The Pagoda structure does NOT have to be accessible. You can make a structure that is amazing but cannot be entered and has nothing inside; that is fine, it would need to stand on its own merit.
